A group of Okotoks businesses is teaming up to highlight a unique shopping and business location in town and to celebrate mom a day early.

Five businesses along Elma Street are hosting Elma Mother’s Day on May 13 to showcase the offerings in the area.

Elma Street is a location in Okotoks with homes, as well as a small, bustling business community. Several shops are located on the street between Northridge Drive and Clark Avenue, along with professional services.

“We wanted to create a walking event where you can stroll down Elma Street,” said Erin Morrill, owner of Deava Beadz. “It’s like a big sidewalk sale, with lots of vendors and lots of fun things.”

From noon to 4 p.m., Deava Beadz, Kinder Kottage, House of Proust, Mint and Maple and 22 Collective will open their doors for the event and host vendors and artists on their front lawns. There be holding draws and Kinder Kottage will host a free photographer.

Elma Street is currently home to five retail businesses, with two more set to open soon.

“We’ve got some wonderful, unique businesses and we want to promote shopping down here,” said Morrill. “It’s a beautiful street to come down and have a walk and shop.”

Natalie Jamieson, owner of Mint + Maple, said Elma Street has plenty of character and she hopes to shine a spotlight on the area with the event.

“We’re excited, this is the second year that we’ve done a Mother’s Day market at the shop, but it’s amazing this year that all of us are joining together and combining forces to make it an even better event,” she said.
