Elections come to a close

Congratulations to all of the elected and re-elected mayors, councillors and school board trustees! Thank you to everyone who put their name forward for election. It’s not easy to put yourself out there into the public eye.

Congratulations to all of the elected and re-elected mayors, councillors and school board trustees! Thank you to everyone who put their name forward for election. It’s not easy to put yourself out there into the public eye. It takes a lot of guts and determination.

Not much change at the Okotoks council table with all incumbents re-elected and Florence Christophers who served on council from 2010-2013 elected back to town council.

Some changes in the M.D. of Foothills council with new candidates defeating incumbents in Division 1 and Division 5. Mayor Larry Spilak was re-elected by acclamation.

Four new councillors in Black Diamond and Ruth Goodwin moved from a council seat to the mayor’s chair.

Two incumbent councillors won re-election in Turner Valley and Gary Rowntree won the mayor’s chair.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the municipal elections by exercising their democratic right and responsibility by casting a ballot in the elections.

We saw 5,672 people out to cast a ballot in Okotoks, which is an increase of 1,081 voters compared with the 2013 voter turnout.

Enjoy the election coverage in this edition of the Western Wheel! Our newsroom team worked through Monday night and into Tuesday morning reporting on all the election results in the Foothills.

A child asked his father, “How were people born?” So his father said, “Adam and Eve made babies, then their babies became adults and made babies, and so on.” The child then went to his mother, asked her the same question and she told him, “We were monkeys then we evolved to become like we are now..”

The child ran back to his father and said, “You lied to me!” His father replied, “No, your mom was talking about her side of the family.”
