A driver about to go on trial for the death of a Foothills cyclist is facing new charges.

Joely Lambourn is already facing charges of dangerous driving causing death in the 2015 death of Deric Kryvenchuk. He was biking along Highway 7 in May 2015 and was struck from behind by a car. Kryvenchuk died at the scene leaving behind his wife and two young daughters.

A five-day jury trial on that charge starts March 6 in Calgary court.

She was back in Okotoks Court Jan. 13 to face new charges with two counts of assault and taking a motor vehicle without consent relating to two incidents in August. These charges will be back in Okotoks Provincial Court Feb. 3.

Kryvenchuk’s widow, Amanda Kryvenchuk, said she will be in court for the trial as well as family and friends. She said Deric’s sister is coming from Florida to hear the court case.

“Although I have no expectations about the outcome of the trial, I am hopeful that it will help people realize they have to stay aware and pay attention when they are driving,” she said. “They need to respect the law.

In April Lambourn pleaded guilty to a ticket for driving with a suspended licence and was fined $400. A ticket for driving without insurance was withdrawn.

Amanda Kryvenchuk, said it upsetting that Lambourn is again facing charges.

“It’s just sad that people have such disrespect for the law,” Amanda said. “It goes to show a pattern. It’s angering and it’s sad.”

Lambourn shouldn’t have been driving that day, she added.

“If she was following the law in the first place she would have never been on the road that day,” she said.
