Compassion needed for injured wildlife

Dear Editor

Who are these people that hit wildlife and leave them to die a miserable death on the side of the road?

Today, I came across an injured deer on the side of the road in Okotoks. People looked right at it as they drove by.

Firstly, a wild animal laying anywhere near a roadway is abnormal. Do the right thing and help it, so I don’t always have to step up to the plate for you.

Call Fish and Wildlife, or in an extreme/desperate situation, call the Report A Poacher number, or call the RCMP, or call the Alberta SPCA.

You can find these numbers anywhere. Keep them in your vehicle.

Secondly, wildlife does not get up and simply run off unscathed after coming into contact with a machine or vehicle. (I have overheard this viewpoint.)

They die a slow and horrible death, as they are attacked by other wildlife.

On the positive side, Fish and Wildlife, the RCMP and the ASPCA have never let me down! Additionally, a kind passerby stopped to see if I needed assistance today. Thank you for that.

Respectfully,

Janny Freeze
