Dear Editor,

Carbon dioxide is a clear colorless gas that has been with us, in more or less greater quantities, since the earth evolved many millions of years ago.

It exists as a trace gas in the atmosphere at about 400 parts per million by volume.

It occurs naturally in volcanos hot springs and all oceans.

It is a product of aerobic organisms (human beings and all animals on earth) and through the gills of fish in the oceans.

Next to oxygen it is the most useful and important gas on earth related to man.

It is an important green house gas.

In fact large green houses inject extra carbon dioxide into their units to increase the growth of the plants in their buildings.

I have been a farmer all my life and I always attributed the phenomenal increase in crop production in the past twenty-five years to the fact that we have better farming practices.

However looking back I have to say that the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere in the last while must be partially responsible for that increase.

Satellite pictures of our planet can attest to the fact that the earth is much greener now than it was twenty five or so years ago.

This is good news for all the animals and human beings on earth as well as for the plants and trees.

A green earth means that there will be greater production from crops worldwide, thus enabling the poor as well as the rich to live better lives.

Why do we need carbon capture? Well that is a very good question. Even the panelists on the IPCC have differing opinions about this subject.

I do not know how much carbon the IPCC plans on removing from the atmosphere; the planet will replace it as fast as is removed.

In any case, too much removal will mean human beings as well as plant growth will cease to exist.
