Busy times at Casa Rockley

Last Saturday was the first time each of our children were in a different town. My wife Cory and oldest daughter Ava were in Red Deer with the Mountain Shadows team for a gymnastics competition. My son Cale and I stayed in Okotoks for his swim meet with the Stingrays Swim Club. Grandy and Grammie took Violet to the Calgary Corral for her cheerleading competition with the Dr. Morris Gibson School Mini-Hawks.

Ava wasn’t feeling well at her gymnastics competition. By Sunday afternoon she was very ill and having a hard time breathing. After a short visit at the South Health Campus she was taken to the children’s hospital by ambulance. Cory stayed with her Sunday night and I was on Dad duty at home. I stayed with her Monday night while Cory was Super-Mom at home.

They say that she has an infection in her voice box that is restricting her airway. A variety of medications were needed to improve things and she’s needed help from the oxygen mask. Tuesday morning as I peck this column on my iPhone she is breathing without it, which is fabulous. I feel so bad for her, the poor little sweetheart is super sick.

It’s crazy how fast she went from feeling like she had a cold to struggling to breathe. Thank God for our amazing health-care system.

We feel so fortunate and thankful that there are medical professionals and facilities there for us at times like this.
