The Bengals are planning to come home for an appearance this season.

The Big Rock Bengals are entering their fourth-year in the Calgary Area Midget Football Association and for the first-time in history, they plan to play a regular season game on something that resembles home turf.

“We are going to have one game at least in Okotoks this year — we are also hoping to have a game in High River if possible,” said Bengals coach Bruce Marlow.

However, first they need players to put on the stripes for another season.

The Bengals are holding a registration night Feb. 2 at Built Strong Athletics from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Marlow is hoping the upward trend for the Bengals will continue. The Bengals are coming off their best season in history at 3-3 in 2016.

“Our record has improved every year,” Marlow said. “We were third in our division which is a big step for us – right in the middle of the pack.

“Every year we have gotten considerably better and we are hoping for something pretty awesome this year.”

There is plenty of talent on the home front. The Bengals, who play in the spring, are for students currently in Grade 9 to 11. Some of the future Bengals played for the Foothills Falcons, two-time defending high school provincial champions.

As well, Parker Nakamura who has indicated he will play for the Bengals, is an all-star centre with the Holy Trinity Academy Knights and a recent member of Team U-16 Alberta, which beat Team USA in the International Bowl in Dallas last month.

They are also going on the fringes of Big Rock Country. The Bengals have made a presentation at Highwood High School and Marlow hopes to have a few players from Bryan Brandford’s up-and-coming program in High River.

“We hope to have a couple kids from there and a few from Claresholm as well,” Marlow said. “And of course we will have the kids from the Comp and HTA.”

The registration is at Built Strong Athletics at 208-112 Southbank Boulevard in Okotoks. Marlow said plans are to ensure that no child will be denied for financial reasons.
