Awards about recognition, not exclusion

Dear Editor, I was saddened to read the letter by Ann Douglas censuring the Western Wheel for the March 16 article celebrating Lisa Willis being awarded Bus Driver of The Year by the Student Transportation Association of Alberta.

Dear Editor,

I was saddened to read the letter by Ann Douglas censuring the Western Wheel for the March 16 article celebrating Lisa Willis being awarded Bus Driver of The Year by the Student Transportation Association of Alberta.

We should be happy for someone when they are recognized for their efforts. Undoubtedly, there are many other excellent bus drivers and their turn will come.

We have recognition for teachers of the year and _____ of the year and these are usually based on nominations.

Does this mean that everyone else did not do a good job? Of course not.

I look at this as a recognition and celebration of the industry as a whole as well as the individual. Can we not feel happy for another instead of crying “no fair”?

There is a reason why the adults get to be the bus drivers of the children and not the other way around.

Please, let’s behave like adults then and be happy for Lisa Willis and all others that win awards of recognition.
