An arrest warrant has been issued for a suspect believed to be behind the theft of as much as $15,000 in gold and diamonds taken from an Okotoks jewellery store last month.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 35-year-old Lina Mae Lafond in connection to an April 5 theft at Wild Rose Jewellery and Gifts.

Okotoks RCMP Sgt. Sukh Randhawa would not say how police have identified her as a suspect and her current whereabouts is unknown.

The theft occurred just after the store had just opened for the day at 10 a.m. A female suspect removed approximately $15,000 in gold bracelets and diamond pendants from a display case.

Security footage taken at the time showed the suspect had red hair and glasses and she was reported to have a large scar on her face.

Police say it’s uncertain at this point whether or not she had any help.

Randhawa said none of the items stolen have been recovered yet and the investigation remains ongoing.

“We’re looking for her, if anybody has any information call the local police,” he said.
