A Calgary man charged with murdering his father and dumping the body at an Okotoks residential construction site will ask to be released from jail before his preliminary hearing next summer.

Zaineddin Al Aalak, 21, of Calgary, is charged with second-degree murder and committing and indignity to a body.

On July 17 workers at the D’arcy construction site found a body.

Two days later police arrested Al Aalak.

Police allege Al Aalak got into a confrontation with his father at his Acadia townhouse.

The discovery of a body in Okotoks shocked some people living nearby who watched on as the site was combed by police for three days.

On Sept. 15, Al Aalak appeared in Calgary court with lawyer Andrew Stewart.

At his first court appearance July 20 Al Aalak told the judge he didn’t want a lawyer and would represent himself.

However, on Monday morning Stewart said he and another lawyer will be representing Al Aalak.

Two Crown prosecutors have also been assigned to the case. Stewart set a bail hearing for Oct. 17, which will be heard in the court of queen’s bench in Calgary.

His lawyer also set a two-week preliminary hearing for July 9-20, 2018.

Al Aalak’s demeanor was very different during this appearance and he only addressed the judge once.
