A strange performance

That was a strange performance by Prime Minister Trudeau in Parliament last week.

That was a strange performance by Prime Minister Trudeau in Parliament last week. Why did he decide to physically move Conservative whip Gord Brown toward his seat after a brief delay to a vote related to the bill on doctor-assisted dying?

It appears that a group of MPs were milling about in hopes of delaying the vote. That’s when things went sideways. In a rather unprecedented move, our Prime Minister left his seat, quickly approached the group still lingering and told the group to “Get the F--- out of the way”, according to reports by Members of Parliament (MP) within earshot. At that point he grabbed Conservative MP Gord Brown and accidentally elbowed NDP MP Ruth Ellen Brosseau in the chest. In the end, NDP MP Ruth Ellen Brosseau missed the vote as she was recovering from the collision and Prime Minister Trudeau apologized for his behaviour at every opportunity in the days following.

Back to my original question. Why did he do this? Was he really so angered by the brief delay that his emotions took over and he wasn’t thinking rationally? Was this an opportunity to direct the media attention away from the doctor assisted dying bill and change the story to this incident? Was this an impulse decision driven by the need to be the centre of attention? Maybe it was a combination of these things and we will probably never know what was in his head at that moment.
