The Casa Hogar orphanage in Manzanillo Mexico is the most amazing orphanage I’ve ever heard of. Especially when I put it into perspective that many orphanages in Mexico do not provide overnight accommodations.
Thanks to significant financial support from generous philanthropists in Manzanillo, Casa Hogar has become a place for children to grow, learn and thrive. There is a school attached and most students go on to post-secondary education. Casa Hogar has partnered with a local university where the children study and practice folk dancing from across Mexico.
The students from Casa Hogar have become so skilled at folk dancing that they’ve taken the show on the road.
The performers change from year to year as children grow up and go out to succeed in the world and the younger students take their place in the dance performance. On September 18 the children from Casa Hogar orphanage will perform in Okotoks at Holy Trinity Academy. A singer named Mariana Vargas will be performing with Casa Hogar in Okotoks. Ms. Vargas has an impressive biography of singing roles and awards in North America, including a main role in Mentiras, The Musical (2013).
The most successful original Mexican musical in history. She is also a university graduate.
The show starts at 7p.m. on Sept. 18. If you are as keen to see this as I am, you will want to get tickets early there is a limited number. Tickets can be purchased at Natural High Fitness in the Okotoks Recreation Centre or at the Okotoks Western Wheel office. Proceeds from the performances funds the travel and expenses for the performance itself. Any additional proceeds from their shows goes towards enhancing Casa Hogar to make it even better for future generations.
