A perfect day to walk for two Terrys

It’s always heartwarming to see people come out in support of someone in need - emotional, physical or spiritual. This weekend, we helped a close friend with all three. Robin Platz lost her husband in March.

It’s always heartwarming to see people come out in support of someone in need - emotional, physical or spiritual.

This weekend, we helped a close friend with all three.

Robin Platz lost her husband in March. Terry Gardner had survived Ewing’s sarcoma when he was 18 years old against any doctor’s predictions (he was given a three per cent chance of survival). But Terry was a fighter, and made it through.

Afterwards, he dedicated himself to the Terry Fox Run every year, knowing some of the funds raised by the event had undoubtedly led to his recovery.

This year, Robin took it upon herself to organize a group on Terry’s behalf. We were called Gardner’s Brigade, and we raised almost $3,500 in his name.

It was a beautiful morning - sun shining, warm breeze, and clear blue skies (thank you, Terry!). We met before anyone else arrived at Crystal Shores Beach House and started an hour early - because that’s what Terry used to do.

It was a perfect opportunity to bring family and friends together for a great cause, and an amazing memorial day for our friend.

We met afterwards at Robin and Terry’s home for food and champagne to celebrate, surrounding Robin with all the love we could muster as she navigated through a difficult day.

There’s nothing like the strength of family and friends to guide a person through their darkest moments, and to help them celebrate and smile even when the world seems cloudy.

Here’s to you, Robin and Terry. Thank you for including us all in your day.
