A Canada 150 to remember

I’m still pumped from the Canada 150 long weekend. That was so much fun! The Kick-off to Canada Day party downtown on Friday night was awesome. The Olde Towne Okotoks merchants group and the Town of Okotoks threw an amazing party.

We served free sno cones and hot dogs at the Western Wheel as our contribution to the party. We served over 500 sno cones, 350 hot dogs and we had so much fun.

Wheel reporter Krista Conrad was in charge of the Canadian Cherry sno cone syrup and her hands were stained red until Sunday.

I was in charge of grilling the hot dogs and I was still thinking about grill management as I drifted off to sleep on Friday night.

The Dawgs game and Canada Day fireworks on Saturday was spectacular. It was pouring rain when the game was scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.

There was blue sky beyond the storm clouds so we huddled under the concourse roof to wait out the storm with everyone else.

After the rain ended the Dawgs players, coaches, promotions staff, got down to business getting the field ready for the game. They were using big squeegees to move the water off the outfield and it was a wave of water when they started pushing it, but in a matter of minutes the field was ready. The Dawgs proceeded to crush the Swift Current 57’s by a score of 9 – 1. The rain came back when the fireworks started. Lightning was flashing as the fireworks were exploding, it was a memorable spectacle to say the least.

Great job by the Town of Okotoks and Okotoks Dawgs on the Canada Day fireworks show!
