Subway employees had some extra cleanup added to their end of the night duties on Aug. 18 after a car slammed into the front of the restaurant shortly before 11 p.m.
Restaurant co-owner Jiten Bagadia said a woman and a man in their 20s came into the Subway location near Southridge Drive and Big Rock Trail around 10:30 p.m. for a bite to eat. When they went to leave, instead of reversing out the parking lot, the car smashed through the front windows and rammed into the front of the store.
Bagadia said he believes the collision was an accident.
“I think she didn’t know how to gear her car,” he said. “But, I really don’t know.”
Bagadia said he’s just glad it was late at night and that no one was injured.
“We are very lucky, and she is very lucky as well because there was no customer sinside who could have been hit by a car,” he said.
The restaurant was closed on Aug. 19 while a crew worked to replace all of the broken windows and bricks. Bagadia estimated that the damage would be more than $6,000.
“Right now we’re installing the temporary door frame and then the property management will come look at it,” he said. “So right now we're trying to fix the frame so we can temporarily open the restaurant.”
The front of the restaurant is now boarded up with a temporary door and the restaurant is back in business until the final repairs can be made.
RCMP did not have information available on Wednesday afternoon on what caused the crash or whether any charges were pending.
