Albertans deserve action on problems

There has been a lot of tough talk by contenders looking to lead Albertaís embattled Progressive Conservative Party over unpopular decisions, suggested culture of entitlement and the most recent revelations over former Premier Alison Redfordís travel habits
What Albertans deserve is tough action to ensure tax dollars and government resources are used appropriately.
According to a leaked report by Albertaís auditor general, Redfordís staffers booked up seats on government planes when she was set to fly, only to remove the names from the flight manifest before the plane took off. This essentially would have allowed Redford or her entourage to fly alone. Itís also suggested the premier received a personal benefit by taking her daughter along on government flights.
For her part, Redford has said she wasnít aware of the practice.
However, the provincial government needs to investigate the allegations and ensure government resources werenít abused in this practice. The partyís problems extend beyond its former leaderís travel plans. There are several policy decisions that saw the PCs get where they are today, such as plunging the province back into debt.
Last week PC leadership contender Jim Prentice talked tough in Okotoks, saying he was ďangryĒ and ďunhappyĒ with the direction the party and province are going.
Itís tough talk, but the party and its eventual leader need to show they can get the provincial house in order and prove to Albertans they deserve to continue in office.
