The provincial battle on the southern front is going the distance.

The Okotoks Erratic and Calgary Irish are locked up 1-1 in the best-of-three Senior C South final with little to choose between the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League clubs.

Through two games it’s been a homer series thus far.

The top-seed Erratic took the series opener by doubling up the Irish 8-4 on Friday night at Murray Arena. Okotoks’ Graeme Copland stood tall in goal, holding the Irish off the board in the final frame to preserve the two-goal advantage after two periods.

Okotoks shared the love on offence with 10 players registering at least one point. Assistant captain Wade Taylor led the way with two goals and two assists while leading scorer Craig Warren chipped in with two markers.

Jay Everson, Patrick Mailloux, Dan Fuller and Craig Wigle also got on the board for the hosts.

The Erratic were stuck between a rock and a hard place when the series shifted north to Calgary’s Stu Peppard Arena.

Facing elimination, the Irish scored four second period goals en route to its 10-6 triumph. Calgary’s Ben Schiffman poured in a four-goal performance while Joe Catalano and Dan Gibbs contributed two goals each.

Taylor led Okotoks with a four-point effort as Warren and Craig Schochter each scored a pair and Wigle adding the other marker for the visitors.

The winner-take-all Game 3 was Tuesday July 22 at Murray Arena, after the Western Wheel’s press deadline.

Awaiting the winner of the south series is the defending champion Blackfalds Silverbacks.

Blackfalds dispatched the Vermilion Rage in two games to sweep the North final.

Blackfalds beat out Okotoks in three games to win the 2013 Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League championship.
