The Ranahan Round-Up, a polocrosse tournament held southwest of Okotoks this weekend, will have an international flavour.

The Ranahan Polocrosse Club is hosting a two-day event that will be attended by riders from Ireland, Australia and the United States.

The tournament starts at 10 a.m. on both July 5 and July 6. A barbecue is planned for 5 p.m. on July 5 while prizes and awards will be handed out at around 2 p.m. on July 6. The public is welcome but leave your dogs at home.

Polocrosse is just as it sounds: a mix of polo and lacrosse. Each team has six players on horseback but only three take to the field at a time. The three players are designated as a forward, midfielder and defender. The object is to get the ball through the uprights.

It is literally like lacrosse on horses, said Cathy Ladiges from the Ranahan Club. Its just amazing horsemanship.

The Ranahan Polocrosse Club is located at the corner of 64th Street and 202 Avenue (south of Highway 7).
