Dear Editor,

I am disturbed by the people who are supporting the introduction of adult entertainment businesses in Okotoks under the premise of leaving the issue up to the individualís free choice.

The exercising of an individualís free choice is always subject to the impact that choice has on the common good. For this reason our society has developed a set of laws that dictate that certain actions that individuals freely choose to do are prohibited based on protecting the common good. Laws prohibiting murder, sexual assault, racism and cruelty to animals, to name a few, are all limitations on our freedom to choose to act against other members of our community.

The common good expressed by the vast majority of the people who have been participating in the recent consultation process has shown that they are strongly against having adult entertainment businesses in Okotoks. I trust that our town council will find the way to prevent these adult entertainment establishments from violating the common good of our Okotoks community.

Michael Gund,

Okotoks
