Last day to enter Best of Contest

The Best of the Foothills contest comes to a close on Thursday, May 29th at 4 p.m. If $500 makes you happy, then to have a chance at that you better sit down and either enter now online or get a printed copy into the Wheel office. Go to and click on contests and then follow the prompts through the questions. You don’t need to answer all the questions. Please choose the ones you have a favourite for. June 25th edition will announce all the winners to the public.

Saturday, June 7th is the annual Okotoks Rotary Soap Box Derby. It is such a fun family day. Children 9-14 can enter. All entrants get a grab bag of goodies and there is a trophy for the winner of each heat at the end of the races.

All participants race for a trophy and get to have five heats. There are also prizes for best paint job, weirdest paint job, best dressed, most original and fastest school entry. You can build your own cart or ask to be a driver and a sponsored cart will be provided. For more information please call 403 938 3160.

Congratulations to our very own photographer, Jordan Verlage. Last weekend in Vancouver at The News Photographers Association of Canada convention he was awarded “Spot news photo of the year” and “Picture of the year” for his photo during the flood in High River of the man and his cat swimming away from a submerging truck. A canvas copy of the photo is displayed in our front office.
