A two-vehicle collision on Highway 7 claimed the life of a 20-year-old Okotoks man on the weekend.

An eastbound pickup truck and a westbound sedan collided on the s-curve east of Black Diamond at approximately 8 a.m. on Saturday.

The 17-year-old male driver of the pick-up was transported to the Oilfields General Hospital in Black Diamond and released immediately after examination. The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. .

The area was under a snowfall warning at the time of the collision. Turner Valley RCMP Sgt. Paulina Larrey-King said that road conditions may have been a factor.

“When the members arrived there it was very slushy and snow-covered,” she said. “I know by the time all the emergency services were done it was all clear so it was difficult to see what it was like when the collision occurred.”

The medical examiner has not released the name of the deceased out of respect for the continuing notification of family

The cause of the collision is still being investigated.

Alcohol is not considered to have been a factor in the collision
