At this weeks Okotoks town council meeting a vote was taken on the idea of building a Performing Arts Centre at the Foothills Composite High School along with other renovations which will soon be taking place. At the end of the day the majority of council voted not to proceed at that location. Council and probably the majority of the community feel that when a Performing Arts Centre is built it should be built with the opportunity of adding other community facilities with it such as a museum or larger library down the road.

It may now take longer for us to see this facility built, but at the end of the day we will all look back and realize the correct decision was made.

Last week the Okotoks Rotary Club held a Mac and Cheese luncheon to raise money for the new Food Bank location.

It was a great event with about 200 showing up for lunch. Interesting idea to have something like this at noon rather than an evening event. It was a festive crowd and seemed to be a popular way to do a fundraiser. Over the next couple weeks we will get an idea on how it worked out financially. Congrats to Rotary for sponsoring this luncheon.

You can never say that politics in Alberta are boring! At least not in the past few years. With our ex Premier basking in the California sun she has become like a rock star with photos being sent back from Alberta tourists. Oh I bet she can hardly wait to be out of the political scene. Seems now that Prentice has decided to put his name in the hat for the job.

Not sure why he would want to get back in the political realm but that will be up to him to tell us. If he does run we know that Ken Hughes has already announced and will be waiting to get the election process underway. I wonder how many others will want to throw their names in as we now have two very capable candidates.

All we do know for sure is that the past year or so has taken the Conservative party of Alberta to a new low and the winner has a huge job building back the trust of voters. Some say they will not be able to win the next provincial election! Only time will tell.

WOW, we have finally made it to May. Grass is turning green and life just feels a whole lot better. The annual Soap Box Derby will be taking place on June 7 so if you know someone 9-14 years old who would like to participate pick up a registration form at the Wheel. Now is a good time to purchase a kit and make your own cart. Lotís of fun.
