Editorial support is welcome, but there is more to do

Dear Editor,

Dear Editor,

I was pleased to see the editorial in support of GSA clubs in the Foothills Composite and Oilfields High Schools as I feel this topic is a long time coming to the area and that access to education should not come with being afraid of going to school.

I was, however, taken aback at the phrase “those individuals choosing a gay lifestyle.” By now it should be more than apparent that people do not “choose a gay lifestyle,” but rather that being LGBTQ, etc, is just one of the many parts of who a person is. GSA clubs should be supported so that all students can go to school and receive a quality education without living in fear for being bullied for who they are. As you said, this is exactly what places of learning are supposed to provide to their students. There is still much work to do.
