Last week the Alberta Junior womens team from Edmonton won the Canadians and will move on to the World’s in Switzerland.
The Junior mens were not quite as fortunate but did have a great run. The mens team consisted of skip Carter Lautner, third. Taylor Ardiel from Okotoks, second David Aho and lead Kyle Morrison from Okotoks.
They made it to the semi final on Sunday morning but were beat by New Brunswick who in turn lost the final to Manitoba. The first team All Stars include our skip and the 2nd team All Stars include our second. Also the men’s Sportsmanship Award went to Taylor Ardiel. Congrats men for a terrific show.

I want to shout it from the roof tops that the Wheel won some photography awards last weekend. There were about 400 entries in 6 categories and we placed in 4 of them. Never happened before in our 38 years of producing a paper. Just shows the idea of hiring a professional photographer was a good one. We won 1st for the fellow and the cat swimming from his sinking truck, 2nd for a “Muddy Bull Ride”, 2nd for “The Duck stops here” and 2nd for a photo of a man cleaning out a flooded basement. Congrats to Jordan and the Wheel team.

Those of us that care probably already know that a nomination vote will take place the first week of March for a Conservative candidate to take over from Ted Menzies who resigned the position. What you may not know is that you only need to be 14 years old to vote and of course a Canadian citizen and hold a $15.00 membership. WOW, I have grandkids who could vote! Problem is I don’t think they would even know where the House of Commons is, or care.
Anyway this Friday George Canyon and John Barlow are kicking off their campaigns with a free concert at the Foothills Centennial Centre. George will be running in the new Bow River riding in 2015 and doing the singing (I hope) and John will be running in Macleod in March.

Just about time to say goodbye to January as this Saturday will be February 1st and the night of the Annual Okotoks Dawgs banquet. Homer Bush will be the guest speaker and there will be plenty of good food and lots of fun. I’m told we will have a great crowd but a few tickets may still be available if you hurry. Give Angie a call at 403 262 DAWG.
