I need to tell you about this fantastic live concert coming up this Thursday and Friday at the United Church in Okotoks with performances by several local area musicians and others. These include Darren Johnson, Mel Wilson, John Fraser, Paul Rumboldt, Tanya Ryan and many, many more. This is the sixth annual I believe and every year it just gets better. The entire proceeds are donated to our local food bank. In the past it has always catered to a sold out crowd. This year with everything we have been through there are still tickets available.
Please dont miss this highlight of the Christmas season. Tickets are available at Sobeys, Royal LePage Foothills and the United Church. They are $20 for adults and kids under 12 are $5. Also please bring along a non-perishable food item. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the performances starting at 7 p.m. Hope to see you there.
Have you ever gone through a Checkstop that you look forward to? Me neither, but this year we have the opportunity to do so on Milligan Drive at Okotoks Drive today, Dec. 11 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Checkstop is involved in collecting food, unwrapped toys or monetary donations for Rowan House Emergency Shelter and the Okotoks Food Bank. Last year they raised almost $9,000 and seven truck loads of food.
Can we meet or exceed that number this year?
Heres a little history for you. In 1939 the first Shirtsleeve Curling Bonspiel was held in Lethbridge Alberta. Now 75 years later the event is still going strong with teams entering from all over southern Alberta and beyond. The event runs from Jan. 27 to Feb. 2. Lots of special nights and a banquet and dance to send you home. Anyone interested can get more info at www.lethbridgecurlingclub.com
Are you just about ready for Christmas? This year I almost talked my wife into not having a Christmas tree, or at least a small table model that I can store fully decorated. I hate decorating the tree. Hot chocolate, Christmas music and the whole nine yards and I still dont like it. I like it when she is done, but I prefer to watch curling or something as it happens. Oh, but I do like presents, all kinds and all sizes...
