Okotoks should be embracing Wind Walk development

I would like to know the truth behind the filibustering of Okotoks council on the Wind Walk project. Town council had the opportunity to work with this developer and they passed it up, now they are acting like a jealous ex-boyfriend. They are wasting taxpayer’s dollars chasing an issue that is no longer their business, and destroying the relationship between our town and the MD. Their legal counsel missed a six-month deadline, and instead of being reprimanded they were rewarded and instructed to chase this issue through the courts even further, wasting increasingly more money. I would like to know why the town council, the administration, the developers and the builders in this town are so fearful of letting Mike Holmes and Wind Walk Developments proceed? Why would council oppose a project where the developer has even offered to set up a certification and training program here in our town, and train and employ our young people to build certified and environmentally friendly homes.
What is so wrong with allowing a builder to come into Okotoks and bring recognition and well built homes that are all up to code in an environmentally vital, stable development? Town council allows a Walmart, a Costco, a Home Depot, and numerous other big box stores to build within our town limits, but then doesn’t expect to have to house the people that will follow this commercial development.
I think it is time for the truth. I respectfully request that each person running for council and for the mayor’s seat clearly state how they feel about the Wind Walk development issue, and if and why they are opposing it. That is how I will cast my vote. I am certain there are many more who feel the same way I do.
The town council is acting unilaterally on this issue without seeking public opinion; I have relayed this message directly to Wind Walk Developments, and encouraged them to not give up on Okotoks. It is shameful our town council has treated someone with such integrity with so much disrespect.
My next phone call is to the Province to request an investigation into this matter. Something is fishy, and this is a huge misappropriation of funds. There is an election coming, council needs to be held accountable for this embarrassment.
