It is time for change on Okotoks council

I agree with Larry Albrecht (this is not to say he would be the one to make the changes), but changes are definitely needed. My wife and I moved here in 1993, I think for 18 of those years there has been some mention at one time or another about water, population cap, etc. Nothing has been done about either one. I disagree with a population cap, I have always said we cannot become an island, this is what the past and current councils have allowed to happen by not annexing land in order to increase the town limits. You can control what happens close to you if you control the land around you. Calgary works (I believe) on a 30-year plan. Notice how far out the city limits are? We have a water problem so why are we allowing more and more development? Seems like a simple enough question, and a simple answer — stop issuing development permits.
We need a different breed of councillors, I think those we need are those who were not here when the only fast food restaurant was the Dairy Queen, when we had no motels, and the Fas Gas closed in the evening. In other words none of those people who start off a conversation with “I remember when.”
In short, stop issuing development permits. Two courts have said there is nothing we can do about the Wind Walk development, (I am against that development) but our past councillors were asleep at the wheel and were not forward thinking, they woke up one day and there it was, a large development on our doorstep with no benefit to the town.
We need a better turn out at election time, we need people with real solutions running for council. If you don’t vote you have no right to complain. If your not part of the solution you are part of the problem.
