On Monday evening the WMBL Dawgs baseball team put it all together and beat out the Lethbridge Bulls in game five to advance to the next series against the league leading Medicine Hat Mavericks. The first two games will be played in the Hat on August 6th and 7th. Game three will be our first home game of the series and will be held on Thursday, August 8th.
During the season we went 4-4 against the Mavs and will have to be at our best to take them down. They only lost once at home all season but the good news is that it was the Dawgs who beat them.
Lets pack the park on Thursday to cheer our boys onto victory. This should be a fantastic series.
GO DAWGS GO!!!
If you took a close look at the Western Wheel last week you may have noticed that it looks a little different. The page is a bit narrower, the photos are sharper and it is stapled. It is also printed in one section as we have moved onto our new press which is situated in St. Albert. It will take a bit of time for us to get the most out of it but we are thrilled to finally see the dream come true. We now have the capacity to print 96 pages in full colour on one pass through the press. For more detail on the press instal check out the article on page 3 of this issue.
Let me give you some depressing news! We are six weeks from the start of fall. It has been one weird summer so far as it has been a rare day that the sky has stayed blue all day. The rain and hail seems to linger around most days. I could have saved a few bucks and not bought that new garden hose this year. Im banking on a great fall that holds winter back at least until December.
Crazy thing is that just over the mountains no further than Radium the weather has been terrific. Record days with no rain out on the coast where it always rains. What is happening to our weather pattern?
I see the Alberta Wildrose Party is calling for a public inquiry into the flood response of Southern Alberta. As much as I agree that it does need to be done in due course I still think that right now we should not drop the ball on the disaster recovery program that is far from over.
We dont want this to become any more political than it already is.
Was the situation in High River handled well? absolutely not, but that is a discussion that needs to be discussed down the road, not today in my opinion.
