Okotoks Airport is going to have to relocate

In response to those of you who say the airport was first so tough luck. That is simply not true. There was a serious discussion about building an airport in the middle of a growing town when it was proposed. At the very same time High River was moving it's airport further away from their growing town. Unbelievably, perhaps due to some grandiose promises made between some long time residents and local politicians, the airport in town was approved. Of course the promises and promisers are long gone and the current residents have a growing problem on their hands. Those of us who live east of town are constantly buzzed by planes from the airport. Years ago they flew at 1,000 feet to give us a break now they are supposedly at 500 feet, but I find that unlikely. As far as benefits when you look at the cost to property values and the amount of people who complain regularly about and to the airport I still firmly believe had it been developed a couple of miles away from the growth range of Okotoks it would have had as many (if any) advantages and many fewer disadvantages. Also don't think this is going away and sooner or later it will have to relocate. It is not safe and certainly not healthy to have a noisy expanding airport in the middle of a community.
