Oilers sweep aside rival KodiaksHockey: Okotoks to meet either Brooks or Drumheller in South finalBy: Bruce Campbell | Posted: Wednesday, Mar 20, 2013 01:13 pm The Okotoks Junior A Oilers have swept their way into the South division final. The Oilers, behind the breath-taking goaltending of Jared D’Amico, beat the Camrose Kodiaks 2-1 last night to sweep the best-of-seven series 4-0 in the Alberta Junior Hockey League South Division semifinal. D’Amico stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced in backstopping the Oilers to the victory. Okotoks opened the scoring when sniper Chris Collins buried a pass from Jordan Swenson to put the Oilers ahead 1-0 with just 12 seconds left in the opening period. The Kodiaks tied the game when Nelson Gadoury blasted a shot past D’Amico for a short-handed goal. Thus far in the series D’Amico has kept the Kodiaks’ offence in hibernation. Gadoury’s goal was the first he had given up in the series since early in the second period of Game 2 in Okotoks on March 16. He went more than two games without allowing a Kodiak goal. The Oilers would take the lead when Okotoks’ Mr. Playoff struck again. John Edwardh put Okotoks up 2-1 on a powerplay goal midway through the third period. It was Edwardh’s eighth goal of the playoffs. He has had five of the seven game-winning goals for the Oilers in the post-season. The Oilers will now wait to play the winner of the Drumheller Dragons-Brooks Bandits series. The Bandits lead the series 3-1 after the Dragons beat the No. 1 ranked team in Canada 3-2 in overtime last night in Drumheller. The schedule for the Oilers’ Game 1 South Division best-of-seven tilt has not been determined. For more information go towww.ajhl.ca .
