An Okotoks teen who admitted to selling cocaine in the community, said he was not selling marijuana at his high school.

The youth, who cannot be named because of his age, entered a guilty plea last week to possession of marijuana. He was originally charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking after eight grams of pot was found in his locker at Foothills Composite High School in March 2012.

The Crown prosecutor reduced the charges to simple possession and the youth pleaded guilty in Okotoks Provincial Court Feb. 21, when he was set to stand trial on the charges.

After being arrested for the marijuana, the youth was again arrested in the Lion’s Campground parking lot last summer for allegedly selling cocaine. At the time he was 15-years-old. He will go to trial on those charges in April. An adult woman is also facing charges in that case.

He was arrested for a third time when Okotoks RCMP officers found him in his car with packets of cocaine, out after a court-imposed curfew. The boy pleaded guilty to those charges and was released from jail just before Christmas on house arrest. He can leave the house for school, work or when he is out with his parents. He also has to seek the RCMP’s permission to have friends over to his house.

The youth will be sentenced on the cocaine trafficking and marijuana charges April 30 after a pre-sentence report is completed.
