Business owners west of Okotoks are converging in Turner Valley next week to review last year’s accomplishments and discuss future endeavors.
The Diamond Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual general meeting featuring a reading of executive members’ annual reports for 2012 and an election for a new executive at the Diamond Willow Retreat Centre in Turner Valley on Feb. 13 at 6 p.m.
President Chris Weingarth said the big order of business is finding people to fill the executive positions, which he doesn’t expect to be a problem this year.
“I think we are going to have a surplus of candidates,” he said. “The current executive was talking with likely candidates and encouraging other members who have already demonstrated their willingness to participate on a consistent basis to step in for a (two year) term.”
The chamber sent out an announcement to members about the meeting outlining the roles and responsibilities of each position, said Weingarth.
He said the chamber includes approximately 70 members, which represent businesses in Black Diamond, Longview, Millarville and Turner Valley, and membership remains consistent each year.
The executive experienced a complete turnover two years ago and this year Weingarth said he expects to see some shifting of positions.
He said the treasurer is stepping down to join the membership committee, the vice-president will likely advance to the president position and the position of secretary will be open.
“We have a baseline healthy organization so people don’t have to run the other way screaming when their terms are due,” he said. “There is more continuity with the executive and the members who pull weight in the organization.”
