Okotoks RCMP officers hit a home they say is a hub of drug activity on Friday, again turning up drugs and stolen property.

Members of the Okotoks Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) busted a unit in a four-plex for the second time on North Railway Street.

During an earlier bust in October, neighbours said the home has been a drug house for two years and were pleased an arrest had been made.

However, it looks like not much has changed after police found three people in the home with small amounts of crystal meth, morphine, cocaine, marijuana and magic mushrooms. A woman also turned over 4.5 grams of crack cocaine she had hidden on her body after she was arrested.

Sgt. Ian Shardlow of the Okotoks RCMP said it is concerning to see such a variety of drugs in one place.

“It’s concerning that there were hallucinogens, stimulants and depressants all potentially for resale,” he said.

CRU officers working on tips, set up an investigation on the home for a few weeks and had gone to the home Friday looking for drug dealing activity, Shardlow said.

However, the quantity of drugs found, didn’t support trafficking, Shardlow said, resulting instead in drug possession charges.

It is unusual to find crystal meth in Okotoks, he added.

“Crystal meth has a highly addictive nature,” he said. “It is concerning seeing that in town.”

Officers also found jewelry in the home they believed to be stolen.

One person was released without charges. A man and a woman were arrested and taken to the detachment.

Shardlow said bail was set at $400 and he was unsure if the accused have been released. If they do pay their bail they will be on strict conditions and police will be keeping a close eye on the pair, he said.

“They have 11 conditions like a curfew and a residency condition,” Shardlow said. “They will be put on a list of people that we routinely check in on.”

The Okotoks RCMP has a list of repeat offenders officers monitor to ensure they are following their release conditions.

Lindsey Charlton, 32 of Okotoks, and Robert Sims, 20 of Okotoks are charged with five charges of possession of a controlled substance, one charge of possession of the proceeds of crime, one charge of possession of the proceeds of crime and four charges of breaching a condition of a court recognizance.
