Southbound traffic on Highway 2 was almost brought to a standstill on Thursday afternoon after a truck flipped at the intersection of 338 Ave southeast of Okotoks.

Sgt. Ian Shardlow of the Okotoks RCMP said a GMC truck was crossing Highway 2 on 338 Avenue when it was struck by a southbound car. The truck rolled over and landed on its cab on the west side of 338 Avenue.

Traffic was reduced to two lanes on the busy highway while police investigated and 338 Avenue was closed on the west side of the highway.

The only occupants of the vehicles were the drivers, a male and a female. One person was taken to the High River hospital stable condition and the second person was taken to Foothills Hospital in serious, but stable condition.

“Both had minor traumatic injuries,” said EMS spokesperson Adam Loria.

RCMP will continue to release more details as the investigation continues.
