Residents should not be feeding the deer

I enjoy the sight of deer in the town early in the morning and at dusk. Lately the deer are more adventurous in mid-day. The safety concern of the deer population is legitimate in a town or city setting. It would be impossible to keep all the deer out since Okotoks has a beautiful river valley that would draw much of the wildlife to this area, and it would have a negative impact on the town with the absence of wildlife. I agree we should not encourage the wildlife to stay and it is a surprise that people feed the deer. All provincial and national parks warn the public the dangers of feeding wildlife. The dangers do not change when it’s your own town. One more concern is that the railway runs through the town and at times there are grain carts. The grain carts do drop part of their load and that draws the wildlife.
