Shauna Traub has set her heights high for this October.
The mother of three is vying to be Rocky View Schools’ (RVS) newest trustee.
She has served on Kathyrn’s school council as treasurer or chair over the past 12 years.
Traub also spent the last five years working as a foster parent and had up to four extra children in her house at a time.
“What (being a foster parent) did do was educate me of the diversity of students and what a spectrum of needs they have,” said Traub. “I wasn’t receiving that kind of information from my own children directly.”
Along with meeting needs of diverse learners, Traub wants to restore confidence in the school board, something she said has been lost.
“The public hasn’t received, in this last term, any sort of accountability, transparency or answers,” said Traub. “Our representation has been absent.”
Initial priorities for Traub would include school space in various communities.
“I know that Airdrie and Chestermere are in a crisis and it’s critical in those areas to actively work with the board,” said Traub, a 19-year-resident of Irricana. “I 100 per cent support that issue.”
What Traub will bring to the table is her experience with children and administrative and accounting work.
“I can bring a positive perspective to the board from my experience, background and my professionalism,” she said.
Traub supports the 21st-century-learning initiative developed by RVS and she would maintain that education style, if elected.
“I really like what I see,” said Traub. “I think the board has worked really hard on that and the Superintendent as well.”
For Ward 1’s parents and children, Traub said they could rely on her to restore openness and faith in their trustee.
“My plan is for representation,” she said. “I think the key factor in a trustee is to serve and not to govern.”
