Foothills to host services to reflect, respect and remember

In order to pay tribute to those who gave their lives, the towns of Turner Valley and Okotoks are hosting the last Remembrance Day service of the 20th century.

At 11 am on Nov. 11 no words will be uttered during the two minute wave of silence at Remembrance services across the globe.

In Okotoks, services will be held at the Foothills Composite High School on Thursday, Nov. 11.

The service will begin at 10 am with the Foothills Air Cadets' presentation of the colors and singing of the national anthem. Music will be provided by the Foothills Composite High School band.

The service will also include scripture readings honoring the fallen and a presentation of wreaths by various church and youth groups as well as the RCMP and delegations of the Legion.

MP Dr. Grant Hill will say a few words and lay a wreath on behalf of the federal government and Okotoks Mayor Bill McAlpine will lay a wreath on behalf of the town.

The Royal Canadian Legion in Turner Valley will provide wreaths for those who wish to honor a loved one. For more information call the Legion at 933-4600.

No services will be held at Cenotaph Park this year, however, local resident Mike Lambeth will play the bagpipes for 15 minutes following the service at Foothills Composite High School.

In Turner Valley services will be held services will be held at Flare 'n' Derrick starting at 10:30 am.

Mayors from Black Diamond, Turner Valley and Millarville as well as delegates from the City of Cut Bank, Montana, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), The 9th Batallion (Voltigeurs de Quebec),the Canadian Atomic Veterans Association and various youth groups will lay a wreath in honor of the fallen.
