Blairmore resident was recently arrested for erratic driving and wielding a weapon
on Highway 2 between Aldersyde and Okotoks.
At about 10:30 am on June 1, local RCMP received numerous phone calls about an erratic
driver on Highway 2.
When police arrived, they pursued the suspect and after stopping the vehicle Staff
Sgt. Ralph Wilson of the Okotoks RCMP detachment explained, 'The suspect grabbed
a knife and told the officer (who was there at the time) that if they arrested him
he would kill himself.'
Negotiations ensued with the suspect and Sgt. Wes Elliott, a hostage negotiator,
was called in from Calgary.
'We negotiated with the person and eventually got the knife away,' said Wilson.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary for
psychiatric assessment, said Wilson.
The suspect is charged with impaired driving and possession of a weapon dangerous
to the public.
Charged is Shane Herbert Buck, 37, of Blairmore, AB.
