The Foothills Regional Emergency Medical Services (FREMS) recently announced that
service expansion into the Priddis area has occurred.
'There is, effective June 1, 1999, a fully equipped, response capable ambulance and
staff in the Priddis area,' said Fred Stegmeire, manager of operations.
'We look forward to providing a high level of service delivery to the residents and
visitors to this region.'
Due to construction delays on the new Priddis Fire Hall, FREMS was challenged with
finding short-term facilities for the vehicles and crew.
Through the generous involvement of SMED International, the unit and staff will be
housed, on a 24 hour basis at the SMED complex, until the completion of the fire
hall.
'We had committed to a June 1 implementation date for this unit, and in partnership
with an understanding corporate leader, we have met this goal,' explained FREMS executive
director, Darren Sandbeck.
Discussions with the MD of Rockyview and the Townsite of Redwood Meadows are ongoing
in regard to service provision into that particular area.
'It appears, by our correspondence, that the MD of Rocky View wishes to enter into
an Mutual Aid Agreement with the Commission to supply services to that area only
when the current provider is unable to respond,' explained Sandbeck. 'We have also
started discussions with Calgary EMS around the development of a 'closest unit' policy
for that entire region, including Highway 22X to the city limits,' he added.
'Our corporate policy of developing partnerships and strategic alliances is certainly
being enhanced by this recent expansion of our service delivery capabilities,' said
Sandbeck. 'We look forward to developing business, and operational, relationships
with Calgary EMS and other area providers to supply the highest quality service available,'
added Stegmeier.
