Woman charged in stabbing a no-show
The trial into a stabbing at a Priddis home was cancelled Thursday when the woman in the assault did not show up in court.
The accused woman’s lawyer quit last week when her client failed to appear for her trial.
The hearing centered on an incident in September 2009 when a man suffering from a stab wound called police to a home in Priddis. He told the officers he had fallen on a knife. A subsequent investigation revealed the man’s common-law wife may have actually stabbed him with a knife following an argument.
Fort McMurray police later arrested her for a driving infraction and found out she had a warrant out for her arrest.
A justice of the peace ordered her detained, but her former lawyer appealed the decision and a judge released her from prison.
Last week a judge ordered the woman must go before a provincial court judge to deal with her bail when she is picked up again.
The victim, Thomas Bradstock, drove from Fort McMurray, where he now lives, for the trial. He said it was disappointing the trial was cancelled.
“I want it dealt with,” he said.
Chantal Lornez is charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
