From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, health practitioners at Sundara Wellness in Okotoks will be donating 80 per cent of the service fees for several different types of healing therapies to the Red Cross Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.

Five practitioners are involved in the fundraiser, offering sound, colour and vibration therapy, ionic foot therapy, reconnective healing, acupuncture, acupressure and reflexology and massage.

Registered acupuncturist Wendy Powell said the holistic practitioners liked the idea of offering a service that is healing to people here and can help alleviate the suffering in Haiti.

“It’s sad how families are separated, lost and broken (in Haiti) and it’s going to take millions of dollars to help that country — which is one of the poorest in the world. And why not help people around here de-stress and increase their wellness and be able to send that money down to Haiti,” said Powell. “This is one way that people can enjoy the experience and services we offer here and know they’re giving to a great cause at the same time.”

Practitioners at Sundara Wellness focus on preventative medicine that supports the mind, body and spirit, Powell said. The therapies are integrative medicine, she explained, meaning often their clients are referred to them by physicians and they incorporate an understanding of pharmaceuticals and western medicine into their approach to healing.

Powell said she expects they will be quite busy on Saturdayfor the Healing For Haiti fundraiser. She recommends calling ahead to make an appointment.
