Bisons just keep on rolling

The good times just keep rolling for the Okotoks Bisons.
The Bisons won their fifth-straight game when they downed the Stettler Lightning 5-2 Sunday at the Murray Arena to give Okotoks a stranglehold on first-place in the South Division of the Heritage Junior B Hockey League.
The Bisons have a 13-0-1-1 record. Their 28 points puts them 10 points ahead of the second-place Coaldale Copperheads who have 18 points.
Okotoks has yet to lose in regulation time. Their only blemish this year was a 5-4 overtime loss to the Three Hills Thrashers and a 5-5 tie to the Airdrie Thunder.
Friday the 13th proved to be an unlucky night for the Medicine Hat Cubs to travel to Okotoks. They were bounced 6-1 by the Bisons.
The Bisons Brady Hoetmer had a hat trick in the game to lead Okotoks. Derek Schlamp, Colin MacMurdo and Chance DePaoli also scored for the Bisons. It was DePaoli’s first goal of the season.
Bryce Scherschel got the win in net for Okotoks by stopping 38 of 39 shots.
The Bisons kept the good times rolling with a 6-2 drubbing of the Strathmore Wheat Kings on Saturday in Strathmore.
There wasn’t a case of bus-legs for Okotoks after the trip to Strathmore.
Okotoks came out flying building up a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Max Thevenot scored his second of the year to make it 1-0 to start the run.
The Bisons upped their lead to three on goals from Brady Hoetmer and captain Matthew Gelinas.
Okotoks was able to make it 4-0 early in the second period on a goal by Andrew Krushelniski before Strathmore’s Jeremy Smith put them on the board.
Hoetmer would score his second of the night with a goal midway through the second period to give the Bisons a 5-1 lead going into the dressing room after 40 minutes. The two teams exchanged goals in the final period to make the final 6-2.

Okotoks’ specialty teams were clicking. They were two-for-six on the power play (Hoetmer and Mohns) while the Wheat Kings had less power than the Alberta opposition. Strathmore was 0 for 6 on the powerplay.
Christian Chivilo picked up the win in net for the Bisons.
The Bisons picked up their third win of the weekend  when they beat the Stettler Lightning 5-2 Sunday at the Murray Arena. Scoring details were not available.
The Bisons’ next game isn’t too far down the road. They travel to High River to take on the improved Flyers Friday night at the Bob Snodgrass Recplex.
The Bisons have the rest of the weekend off to perhaps enjoy a Stampeder victory over Saskatchewan in the CFL Western final.
The Bisons’ next home game is Friday Nov. 27 when the second-place Copperheads visit the Murray Arena at 8:00 p.m.
