New board selected for Heritage Lake Homeowners Association
Members of the newly elected board for the Lake at Heritage Pointe Owners Association are ready to get down to work after the previous board was disbanded.
“My priorities are to do whatever I can in a short period of time to start the business of making this a residents’ board,” said board member Greg Brown.
The new board was selected at a special meeting on Nov. 24. Peter Grant, Ted Ostroski, Michelle Fercho, Tom Gear, Elaine Ironside and Bill Ostare will join Brown on the board.
The previous board was deemed invalid after there weren’t enough members present at the last two annual general meetings to constitute a legal vote.
Brown said he doesn’t think it will be a problem to have a quorum at future meetings.
By improving communication between the board and area residents, he said it should help to get more people involved with the association.
“We’re hoping we can get the interest level up when we start giving them back something. When they see action, not talk then maybe they’ll want to get more involved,” he said.
Brown said he wants the board to speak up on behalf of residents in an application by the area’s water utility operator to raise water rates. The previous board took a neutral position on the matter.
Nine people ran for the board and five were elected after one round of voting.
However, a number of people left the meeting because it was running late. As a result, they weren’t able to proceed with a second round of voting to select the final two board members because there weren’t enough people to carry on the meeting.
The vote proceeded after people were called to return to the meeting.
The board is comprised of seven members, all of whom have to be residents of Heritage Lake. The members are volunteers and the board will select its executive at its first meeting.
