Presentation focuses on impact of environmental law

Environmental law isn’t just for lawyers anymore.
The Citizens for a Sustainable Okotoks (CFSO) group is hosting a presentation this evening at the Okotoks Public Library addressing environmental law and what the public should know.
More and more often individual members of the public are using the law to stand up for their rights.
Take the Graff family from the Vulcan area, for example, who were recently in court regarding sour gas wells making them sick. Or Roxanne Walsh, a resident of Turner Valley who appealed construction of the town reservoir due to her concerns about contamination at the site.
The CFSO have invited Okotoks-based lawyer Diane Sokolyk to present a summary of the current municipal, provincial and federal laws with respect to sustainable development and environmental protection and how it impacts Okotoks.
Tonight’s presentation is the third event in an environmental film and speaker series held at the library every second Wednesday through to May 28.
The event is free to attend and will begin at 7 p.m. For more information, go to www.sustainokotoks.com, or call Lyle McRae at 869-7738.
