Six people have been charged with two mischief counts and one count of possession of stolen property when they were found driving a pick-up truck on the greens of a local golf course early Sunday morning.

At approximately 1:30 am Sept. 8, High River RCMP received a complaint of vehicle noises coming from the Rio Vista Golf Course.

Police went in on foot and discovered a stolen GMC pick-up truck being driven on the fairways and greens of the course.

Four adult males, one male young offender and one female young offender were arrested. All six have been charged with one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000, one count of mischief under $5,000 in relation to the stolen truck and one count of mischief over $5,000 for damage to the golf course.

All involved reside in High River.

A court date has been set for Sept. 26, 2002.

The golf course was forced to close its doors on Sunday due to the extensive damage done.

Students attending all schools in the Okotoks area are asked to be extra careful while on their way to and from school.

Last Wednesday morning a suspicious adult male approached a young girl near Big Rock Elementary School.

According to a news release, the male asked the girl to 'come here, come here.' The girl left the area and went into school. She was not harmed.

The male is described as 5' 10' and is said to be wearing glasses, a knee-length trench coat, blue jeans, a light brown floppy hat and black fingernail polish.

He was seen driving a white minivan with a sliding door. The two rear windows were blacked out.

All Okotoks schools have all been notified of the incident. Parents and students are asked to watch for any suspicious activity going on at or near the schools and to call the RCMP immediately.

The Okotoks RCMP are currently investigating the incident.

Anyone having information or questions regarding this incident or knows the identity of this person is asked to call the RCMP at 938-4202 or 938-7046.

Okotoks schools in the Foothills School Division are adjusting to accommodate hundreds of new students.

Elementary schools, Okotoks Junior High School (OJHS) and the Foothills Composite High School (FCHS) are all growing to or beyond capacity as steady growth in the community has translated into growing numbers of students.

Percy Pegler Elementary School had its portables removed to make way for eight newer portable classrooms from Spitzee Elementary School in High River. Four detached portables arrived three days before school began. Teachers and staff worked tirelessly to get desks and equipment stored in the gym over the summer into the new classrooms. In the meantime, classes are being held in extra rooms throughout the school until the next four portables are brought in and attached to the school.

At last week's school board meeting trustees discussed the need for a high school for students in Grades 9 to 12 in the Okotoks area.

The division applied to the government several years ago for a Grade 9 to 12 high school and Kindergarten to Grade 8 elementary school. The elementary school, the future Heritage Heights School in the Davisburg area,
