Committee reviews Windsong boundariesBy Darlene Casten

Windsong Child and Family Services regional authorities may be experiencing shifting borders in the months ahead.
A committee of co-chairs and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) is assessing the current boundaries of the 18 provincial regional authorities.
Windsong Child and Family Services CEO Larry Matheson said the review is part of the Alberta Response Model implemented in April. The response model calls for earlier permanent care for children who are wards of the government and a strong focus on the building of strong families.
Matheson said the committee is looking at how the current boundaries are maximizing partnerships between municipalities and the Child and Family Services Authorities such as Windsong, which is region three.
Currently Windsong encompasses a large area with a variety of geographic terrain.
It skirts aroung the west and south of Calgary reaching just north of Lake Louise and as far south as Claresholm.
'We have to see if there are ways to improve partnerships and timeliness in service,' Matheson said.
Matheson speculated that the provincial government is looking at the performance of the authorities since they were changed from six regions to 18 in 1999.
Windsong is looking for responses from the communities it serves by Sept. 1.
A formal report with recommendations will be submitted to the Alberta Child and Family Services Minister Iris Evans in early September.
